不說什麼
Recently I have been asked by almost everyone I met whether I had finished all my midterms. But the fact is that my midterm has not yet started. I have only one midterm on the coming Friday on Quantum Field Theory, which is a subject that you probably have not heard about before and will never in the future. From the name you can guess that I need to prepare for this midterm, and that is the case. I spent most of my Halloween weekend studying my QFT. After all, Halloween is kind of new for me. And rather than a costumed party, I would prefer a regular one...
The weather forecast said that it would rain this weekend, but it didn't. Despite some clouds, the weather is fairly good. So we played Frisbee and I went swimming too. Such a satisfying weekend! (well it is easy for me to feel satisfied :p)
Let's see what else interesting happened this week. Oh, I got a flu shot on Monday. I had never had a flu shot when I was in Taiwan, and I don't know why I decided to get one here. I caught colds pretty often, and I don't think it is a good idea to be sick in a foreign country where seeing a doctor is a troublesome thing. And also this shot provided by Stanford is free! So I got the shot, and then I felt as if I had gotten the flu! I had a mild fever and my muscle ached. Although I knew that it was normal to have these symptoms and it was not really the flu but an immunization reaction, it still made me quite unconformable. I slept for about 10 hours the night after I got the shot... Fortunately I got better the next day. Hopefully the shot can really protect me from the real flu.
I was notified by SLAC (a national lab at Stanford, where I work as a research assistant) that the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) did not confirm my work eligibility, and I should call DHS to resolve this tentative non-confirmation. Oh, it is always a nightmare for me to call customer service or anything like that. Anyway, I called DHS (tried my best) and resolved this problem. My F-1 visa only allows me to work on campus, but DHS was not aware that SLAC, though funded by the government, is operated by Stanford, and they thought my work at SLAC was off campus. But in fact it is on campus, and that solved my problem.
On Thursday my good friend Lu drove me to a sushi restaurant, Joy Sushi, at San Mateo. He had a gift card so we got some nice rolls at pretty good price. In the restaurant we also watched the game the Giants to the Rangers, we left the restaurant when the game was at 6-0, and we thought the Giants would definitely win. It turned out that the Giants won 8-0. Today the Giants won their third game, so there is only one more for the Giants to win the title! Well, I did not follow MLB games before, but it is still nice to be infected by the atmosphere, especially when your local team is defeating others!
